In early spring of March in the Jiangnan region, during the season when flowers bloom, the 2025 Multimodal Transport Asia Exhibition opened grandly on March 19 at the Shanghai Expo Exhibition Hall. This international exchange event attracted participants from over a hundred exhibitors and tens of thousands of industry decision-makers and experts from more than 60 countries around the world, jointly focusing on changes in global trade, trends in the shipping market, and the development of the container supply chain. The exhibition was co-organized by the China Container Industry Association and Informa Markets.
The former Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Transport, Xu Yahua, the Deputy Secretary-General of the China Customs Society, Miao Yuexue, the President of the China Container Industry Association, Huang Tianhua, Paul Holloway, Director of Informa Exhibitions Group, Chang Xiaofang, Project Director of the Containers Multi-modal Transport Exhibition of Informa Exhibitions Group, Liu Changman, Vice President of Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd., Brian Rysz, Director of Seaco Asia-Pacific Technology and Director of the International Box Owners Association, John Fossey, Senior Analyst at Drewry, and other relevant leaders from shipping and railway units jointly inaugurated the opening ceremony. Li Jun (Mu Yuan), Executive Vice President of the China Container Industry Association, presided over the opening ceremony. President Huang Tianhua and Director Paul Holloway delivered welcome speeches on behalf of the organizers. Representatives from international industry media and major domestic news media attended the event.
On the first day of the exhibition, the "China Container Supply Chain Development Report (2024)" was released. In the speech at the release ceremony, President Li stated that the China Container Industry Association would split and compile the industry reports released for many consecutive years. The "China Container Supply Chain Development Report" released this time comprehensively summarized the development of the Chinese container industry in the past year, and continuously paid attention to the changes, development, and progress of the industry. In 2024, the container production volume was approximately 8.1 million TEU, reaching a historical high, which was 2.2 times the average production volume in the past five years. The report mainly looked ahead to the development trend of the container supply chain, and especially emphasized that the container supply chain would enter a downward adjustment cycle, and there were still many factors affecting the stability of the container supply chain. Based on the key research carried out by the association, the report specifically added the green and low-carbon development process of the container industry, and green and low-carbon would become the main keynote of the development of the container industry. The association will continue to promote the upstream and downstream enterprises in the container industry to move towards the direction of green development.
The 2025 Container Multimodal Asia exhibition gathers industry decision-makers from diverse fields such as global shippers, ports, shipping, technology services, multimodal transport, and logistics equipment manufacturing. It showcases new products and technologies leading the market, covering cutting-edge areas including AI-driven supply chain solutions, smart containers, and cold chain logistics equipment.
In an era of constantly changing global trade patterns, the container industry is currently at a critical stage of development. The container industry should explore the general and main paths for cooperation to address global common challenges. Huang Tianhua, President of the China Container Industry Association, stated: "Under the background of global supply chain restructuring, the collaborative innovation of multimodal transport is crucial. This exhibition is not only a window for technical display, but also a core platform for promoting international cooperation and achieving efficient resource allocation. The China Container Industry Association will focus on greening, digitalization, and intelligence to provide strong support for high-quality industry development."
